Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page
As some of you may already know who are reading this I am putting together a fundraising event for my dad consisting of stalls, a raffle a few bands playing and a bar at the three daws pub gravesend Saturday 18th august 3pm onwards!
However by setting up this page as well, it also helps raise more funds and awareness for this rare non curable cancer- waldenstroms macroglobulinemia. Unfortunately my dad was recently diagnosed with this cancer just after the new year. He is having intensive chemotherapy, plasma theresis and blood transfusions, not to cure but to prolong his life and hopefully give him years rather than months. His life will always be now back and forth the hospital but despite this my dad maintains a positive attitude and smiles. As my dad continues to fight, with your help I would like to support him by raising more awareness and funds for this cancer charity.
It is such a rare cancer with sadly, such little funding. The only way to identify this cancer is to check for protein levels in the blood, which is exactly how my dad found out he had it. After months of being extremely unwell bleeding out a lot regular blood tests coming back without identifying it and at one stage being told he had a blood disorder, he was referred to a haematology unit, where a doctor at st guys happen to walk past and spotted him out of breath and decided to do a blood test for protein. It was then that results came back and the diagnoses of cancer . After further tests, we were told it was waldenstroms and that unfortunately 95% of his bone marrow was cancer with his blood extremely thick at high risk of a heart attack or brain haemorrhage. They rushed him in for his first of many plasma theresis and blood transfusions and told him he was lucky to survive. My dad is a fighter but I hope one day with more awareness and funding there will be a cure. I just want to make my dad proud and continue to support him on his journey and I hope you will help. Anything donated is greatly appreciated. Thank you
