Story

100 miles is quite a challenge for us, Helen has never ridden that far before and Amanda has only done it a couple of times, so we needed an inspiring charity to raise money for and ensure we kept on task and Breast Cancer Care definitely fitted the bill.

Our stories:

Helen:

My mum developed breast cancer at the age of 48 in 1984, a year earlier Nicks mum Barbara had also gone through exactly the same thing. They both fought the disease but mum died 4 years later. She was 52, it was tragic. Barbara received a treatment that allowed her to live another 17 years after her diagnosis and, unlike mum, she was able to see all three of her grandchildren born. The progress made in breast cancer research and treatment has enabled so many women to spend precious time with their families that we never got with mum, that’s why I’m raising money for this charity and I hope you will be able to support us.

Amanda:

This disease is also very close to mine and Alex's hearts. Alex's grandmother "Poppy" fought the disease long enough to see her first grandson, Alex, born in 1971 and his aunty Barbara lost her fight, missing her two sons meet lovely ladies and get married. I have two very close friends who have/are battling this disease. One was diagnosed 11 years ago and after treatment has remained in remission, the other is currently coming to the end of her treatment.
