We raise awareness and funds to combat the causes of homelessness

Dear Friends

It’s me again….. In November I got to experience Sleeping Rough
(sleeping in a tent on a piece of cardboard, on the banks of the River Thames
was one of the most the challenging  things I have ever done) it was
absolutely freezing and so uncomfortable.

I got to listen to the life stories from homeless teenagers, it
made me realise that a  small gesture by ourselves can make life changing
opportunities for someone else.

In my 50th year I have made a choice to think more
about other people and making a difference where possible.

In February at The Fine and Country Conference they announced that
they would be helping the forgotten families from Nepal, who after the
earthquake in  2015 still don’t have homes for their families to live in.
Being an Estate Agent this obviously rings home for us to do something to help
these families.

The cost to build a new house is just £1,800, surely I can help
raise enough to build a house!

We will leave on 23rd May to trek from Kathmandu for
between 5 & 7 hours a day. On day 3 we will be Trekking 7 hours uphill to
reach the remote village of  Thangpalkot1 sleeping in tea houses along the
way. We will have the amazing experience of living in the village for 3 days
alongside the Nepalese and help build houses with the money we have raised.

For those who know me well, you will know that I am absolutely
useless at practical tasks, however Jack reminded me, maybe you should offer to
work in the school, you are very bossy and love the sound of your own voice, a
natural school teacher!

I am going to sponsor a family of 6, the father Bhadur has
unselfishly helped build over 40 houses for other families and now it's time
for us to help his family.

So as if walking 5-7 hours for 3 days in 30 degrees heat was not
challenging enough, to make matters more difficult for myself I sprained my
ankle and have torn ligaments in my foot, this happened 9 days ago. The doctor
said I could not walk for 2 weeks, however I am a tough old bird and started to
walk again after 5 days, but of course with a great deal of pain.

I am going to make it to Thankgpalkot1 as I have made a commitment
to Bhadur and his family,  I will just have to take lots of pain killers.

Please help me raise enough money to change a very kind,
thoughtful person’s life and give his family a future they deserve.

I will forward you photos of my incredible journey, and Bhadur and his family thank you very much for your generosity.

All the very best

About the charity

The Fine & Country Foundation has been created to help combat one of the largest social issues in the UK – homelessness. Last year, the Government estimated around 2,414 people sleep on the street on any one night across England, a rise of 36% over three years. Often the reasons for homelessness are misunderstood, with many blaming the individuals for poor life decisions and carelessness. The reality is: people become homeless for a whole range of complex and overlapping reasons that cannot be avoided, such as family breakdowns, mental or physical health problems or debts. Solving homelessness does not only involve putting a roof over people’s heads, it is also trying to tackle the root of the problem and asking the question: why did they became homeless in the first place? The Fine & Country Foundation is dedicated to bringing together all Fine & Country agents in over 300 locations worldwide to raise awareness of the causes of homelessness whilst supporting homeless charities.
