Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I'm running the Lakeland 50 (inc 3000m of ascent), which I did three years ago but this year I'm going to try a little harder with the aim to beat my previous time (11:38:47). In an ideal world I'd like to do 10 hours as my watch battery only lasts that long, but realistically I'd be very happy with something a little over 11 hours.

In preparation for this I'm running the Wharfedale three peaks event (22 miles over three of Yorkshire's fine Peaks – Birks Fell, Buckden Pike, Great Whernside) on 25th June which is being organised by Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association (UWFRA) who are our local mountain rescue team. This is a team I raised money for a few years ago when I did the Mont Blanc marathon and so it seemed fitting to try and raise a bit of money for them again - I'm covering all my race expenses so all donations go to the charity.

UWFRA do a lot of great work from rescuing trapped farmer's animals to looking for missing people with dementia or mental health problems to saving lives of people injured in the countryside and assisting with flood evacuations. All mountain rescue teams are run by volunteers who have to complete a lot of training in order to be able to safely assist with a wide variety of situations.

The everyday funding of UWFRA is by donations from the public. This money comes from a variety of sources: collecting boxes throughout the area, kind donations from various groups, individuals or organisations, street collections; and fund raising events. The money raised is used to pay for insurance, maintenance and running of our two emergency vehicles, operating and up keep of our base, and the replacement of rescue and medical equipment.  Your money will be used to buy such items as:

Waterproof Note Books - £9.00

OS Explorer Maps - £9.00

Single Radio Battery Chargers £30.00

20m 11mm Dynamic Rope - £32.00

100m Rope Bag - £40.00

Bosch Drill Batteries - £65.00

1450 Pelicase £120.00

Vehicle Service £210.00
