Thanks for visiting my page....
As some of you may know my daughter, Atlanta was born with a very complex heart condition which went undiagnosed until she was 18 days old! We took Atlanta to our family doctor because she was struggling to breastfeed and he diagnosed a heart murmur straight away and sent her to our local hospital where we learnt that it was much more serious than just a murmur. Atlanta was rushed to The Royal Brompton hospital in London in an ambulance that same day and received life saving surgery early the next morning. In her first year she received minor procedures and was monitored regularly until she was strong enough to have open heart surgery to correct her complex condition.
Unfortunately when Atlanta was five we were told that she would require further surgery after all but not until her early twenties. Her early 20's are now here and she is monitored annually by The Royal Brompton, they will not operate until it is absolutely necessary.
Congenital heart disease is the most common human birth defect, affecting around one in 100 babies.
Each day, 12 babies in the UK are diagnosed with congenital heart disease. This means the heart or the large blood vessels surrounding the heart have not developed properly in the womb.
Often, we don't understand why the baby’s heart hasn't developed properly, but the BHF are funding research to find crucial breakthroughs so they can improve the way we diagnose and treat babies, children and adults born with congenital heart disease, and beat the heartbreak caused by these conditions.
When the BHF was founded in 1961, 8 out of every 10 babies born with congenital heart disease died before their first birthday. Now, thanks to research, they have helped to turn this around, with 8 out of 10 babies surviving to adulthood.
I am so very grateful we still have Atlanta and want to raise money for the BHF to continue helping other children like her & families like ours.
Thank You for your support. x
