Shine in the fight against pancreatic cancer · 26 September 2015 ·
Thanks for visiting my JustGiving page. This September, I’m raising money at Shine Night Walk to help Cancer Research UK beat pancreatic cancer.
Around 24 people are told that they have pancreatic cancer every day. Sadly, survival rates remain very low – often because the disease is diagnosed late. Cancer Research UK is committed to turning these statistics around by investing in pancreatic cancer research, to save more lives in the future.
In January 2012 my Mum was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer and the news devastated our family. My mum, Jennifer, was young, beautiful, full of life and loved her family beyond everything. She was a creative, talented, amazing Mum, Sister, Aunt, Niece, Cousin and Nana. We quickly learnt that she was unlikely to survive Pancreatic Cancer. During 2012 mum underwent major surgery, took an incredible amount of medication to manage her ever increasing pain and symptoms, she visited Doctors, nurses, councillors, surgeons, solicitors, funeral directors. She was strong, brave and dignified throughout it all. Each month we had family gatherings to spend as much time together as possible, supporting her and each other. She very much wanted another Christmas with family, we were all with her. Heartbreakingly in the early hours of December 30th 2012, mum passed away. I now know of so many other families who have lost loved ones to Pancreatic and other cancers. It is important to raise awareness and money and fight back!!!!
I have supported my brother, Adrian, he has taken part in several marathons to raise money for Pancreatic Cancer and Iain Rennie in Mum's memory and am looking forward to helping to raise money myself.
On September 26th I will be walking with two close friends in the shine walk, a half marathon through the night, in London.
Thank you very much for taking the time to read this, please dig deep and sponsor me whatever you can. Every pound you donate will help fund their life-saving work.
