In August 2016 I plan to volunteer at Sesame Street Kindergarten in Makindye Division, the southeastern corner of Kampala, Uganda. This is a nursery and day care of around 100 3-6 year olds which receives no support from the government or any other national body. 

This home provides a safe and secure environment for these children.  I would be assisting the children in various ways including teaching English, reading and taking part in social activities to enable them to learn how to achieve and connect with society. Volunteers, children and staff can learn from each other’s experiences, weaving a global fabric of understanding.

I have been accepted as a member of a wonderful non-profit charity
(registered charity number: 1081907) called Inter-Cultural Youth Exchange (ICYE), who are an ethical volunteering organisation with over 50 years of experience in international volunteering. ICYE facilitate volunteers to live and work in countries throughout the world in helping local NGO's and aid international development.

I believe that all children are entitled to a good education and chance
in life, no matter what their circumstances are. Doing work like this has been something that I have always wanted to do but have never got the courage to actually do it. However, all great things are achieved through stepping out of comfort zones.
