Story

I am running the London Marathon in April 2023 for Marie Curie (#TeamMarieCurie)

Running for Marie Curie is special for me as I am dedicating my run to my Dad Michael. At the age of 51, my dad lost his life to Lung Cancer which Marie Curie helped ease his pain during the last moments of his life in their Hampstead hospice.. I wanted to try give back to the charity to try help other families whom may find themselves in similar unfortunate situations to myself. I do owe Marie Curie a large amount of gratitude as they helped ease my family into a new way of life without a prominent figure.

I am so excited... but also scared and anxious to take this on and push myself to my limits. I know doing this for my dad will get me over the finish line after 26.2 Miles!

A bit about Marie Curie..

Their nine hospices offer the reassurance of specialist care and support, in a friendly, welcoming environment, for people living with a terminal illness and their loved ones around the UK. In addition,  their nurses support people in their own homes across the UK, providing hands-on care and vital emotional support.

They have trained volunteers to provide bereavement support, advance care planning and emotional support for dying people in hospital as well as family days which I have attended which really helped support my family in grief just being around families which were going through similar situations. This is so important as some people do not have anyone to talk to and may feel they cannot open up to family on how they deal with the end of someones life.

Where your money goes...

By donating to Marie Curie, you are helping fund care and support for people living with a terminal illness and their families across the UK. It is shown 59% of the funding for their hospices came from donations and I know although this is going to be a hard challenge for me and out of my comfort zone, knowing the bravery of nurses and volunteers  is so much more important in giving care to patients who may need it the most.

I believe it is more crucial now than ever to try raise money for MC, as in 2020/21 the number of people they cared for raised to 42,168 people due to the pandemic.
