Story
I am competing in the Iron Man Wales event on the 11th September, returning to my roots in the lovely town of Tenby, and have decided to use this event as an opportunity to raise money for Brain Tumour research.
An Iron Man event is a full distance Triathlon, comprising of a 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike ride and a 26.2-mile run (marathon). Iron Man Wales is not the easiest Iron Man event, as it includes a bike course with over 8,000 Feet of climbing, and 4 laps of a hilly run. I have chosen this Charity as my Mum was diagnosed with a Brain Tumour at an age now similar to me and passed away in 2001. It surprised me to learn that Brain Tumour research still represents just 1% of the national cancer spend, however is an all-too-common illness with only 12% of patients surviving beyond 5 years, and it kills more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer.
