Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Sickle cell is a disorder of the haemoglobin in the red blood cells. People with sickle cell disorder are born with the condition.  It is not contagious. It can only be inherited from both parents, each having passed on the gene for sickle cell. The main symptoms of sickle cell disorder are anaemia and severe pain.  These painful episodes are referred to as sickle cell crises. They can last a few hours, a couple of days or up to a couple of weeks and often require hospitalisation and the administration of strong painkilling drugs such as morphine. Over time people with sickle cell can experience damage to organs such as the liver, kidney, lungs, heart and spleen. Death can also result from complications of the disorder.

Our goal is to raise awareness of this debilitating condition and to generate funds for educational seminars for health workers to help people manage their condition.  You can help us get there. We are very grateful for any support you can give, please don't forget to gift aid your donation.
