Like too many of us I have recently been affected by cancer. In my case, my wife got the shock news she had a rare form of salivary gland cancer, and mum had stage 2 breast cancer. A couple of years and numerous operations, treatment and follow up appointments later, both have thankfully been given the all clear!

After speaking to some of my friends and collegues from Penistone Round Table, we have decided we would like to do our bit and raise some money for Macmillan, as they have been there for people close to us and are a great support for people and families during this time. 

The event we have chosen is the Macmillan Longest Day Golf challenge, where on the longest day of the year - June 21st, 4 of us will play 4 rounds of golf in a single day! That is at least 14 hours of continuous playing, 400ish shots and about 25k walking and carrying our clubs (if we hit it straight, which we wont! ) We will be playing from dawn to dusk (and then probably be unable to do much else for a few recovery days later)

Fundraising is hugely important to Macmillan. Without people doing events, running marathons, climbing mountains, and donating in all the other ways that you can, Macmillan wouldn’t exist.

Being a none golfer and one who struggles to get through a single round, taking part in this challenge might not make total sense, but I see it as even more of a challenge than it would be to a seasoned pro. It's going to be tough but we are really looking forward to it and hopefully raising a good amount of money for Macmillan! 

We would like to thank Stocksbridge Golf club in advance as they have agreed to support us and donate our green fees to the charity which is wonderful of them :)
