Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.....
The massive earthquake and resulting tsunami that struck Japan on 11 March has caused widespread destruction and human suffering. The images looked like the special effects from a Hollywood movie rather than reality.
Many thousands of people are living in evacuation centres as 14,000 homes have been destroyed and around 100,000 are damaged.
In response to the disaster the BP Foundation has donated $1m (USD) for relief to the Japanese Red Cross and will match any donations made by BP employees.
To raise funds for the above cause I will be attempting a “charity cycle” over the next eight weeks (starting 21.03.11) with the intention of riding at least 1,000 miles during this period.
As some of you will know I cycle to work several days a week and average ~90 miles per week. The charity cycle will require me to “up the game a bit” to average 125 miles per week in order to achieve the 1,000 mile target…….this is my side of the bargain.
What I would like to request from as many people on the project team as possible is sponsorship of 2 pence per mile. Achieving the 1,000 mile target would result in a donation of £20 per person that would then be doubled by the BP Foundation. 100 sponsors would generate a total fund of £4,000.
Any donation below or above the £20 amount would be greatly appreciated and form another vital charitable contribution from the Clair Ridge Project.
As part of the charity cycle I will be providing a weekly update on progress and some cycle safety tips along the way.
Mileage will be recorded on my cycle sat nav and Steve Cross has kindly volunteered to act as independent adjudicator to confirm weekly mileage achieved (see attached photo).
