Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In 2018, at the age of 48yrs old, I took on my biggest challenge to date, which was my fear of water. Having never learnt to swim, I decided to take on one of the biggest challenges you can do, some even call it the Everest of the sea. I announced I would swim the English Channel.
It has taken me nearly 3yrs to be ready, with many obstacles in the way, including the pandemic and lock-down restrictions, but now I am ready and have been given the window to swim between the 13th - 19th Sept 2021.
Over the past years I have been helping to raise funds for CAN, I got to know Doug Scott very well and in the back end of summer last year, he called me to say he thought I was bloody mad to take on such a challenge, but thanked me for all I was doing for the charity and wished me a well and a safe swim across to France. He told me not to put myself in danger and stay strong.
He then went on to tell me that he was not very well and it was unlikely that he would see my achievement in person, but would be there in spirit. Sadly, a few months later he passed away.
A great man of courage, who did so much for the mountain people of Nepal, an inspiration in all forms of manner. A true climbing legend and a friend.
So, on top of all the other reasons I have for swimming the English Channel. I am also dedicating this swim in his honour, for all the great work he has done and will continue to be done, with those who share his passion for helping others.
Please dig deep with your donation and I can't thank you enough for your kindness and support.
Love, Andrew
