Andrew vs South West Coast · 27 April 2020

We’re the 10 million people living with arthritis in the UK. The carers, researchers and healthcare professionals. The family, friends and fundraisers. United by a clear vision: a future free from arthritis. One in which no one is limited by the pain, fatigue and isolation that arthritis can cause.

Story

I’ve always enjoyed walking and it’s something I kind of took for granted. Arthritis changed that and for me, walking is now much more than just getting from a to b. The South West Coast Path is seen as the ultimate challenge for long distance walkers in the UK and, rather rashly, I’ve decided to attempt it. I thought I should try to raise some money for arthritis research while I walk.

Starting at Minehead on 17th May 2021, I will be walking down the north coast of Somerset, Devon and Cornwall, rounding the Lizard, heading along the south coast past Falmouth, Plymouth, Torquay and Exeter and then finishing at Poole Harbour. It is the longest National Trail in the UK, a total of 630 miles from start to finish, with an estimated walk time of 7-8 weeks.

I will be camping, carrying all my kit, with the occasional stay in a B&B on the weekends that Karen drops off my arthritis medication (she’s not keen on sleeping in my cosy two-man tent).

Thank you in advance for any donations, I will keep you updated via this page and an attempted vlog (no idea how this works).
