Story
At 5.59am Sunday 7 July 2013 I will be treading water in a cold lake waiting to start a triathlon I have spent the last 30 weeks training for. At 6am, I am expecting all hell will break loose as I, along with around 1100 other people, begin en-mass the 2.4mile swim that is the prelude to a 112mile bike and 26.2mile run around Nottingham.
Having competed in 3 Half Ironman triathlons in the past, I momentarily had leave of my senses and decided it was time I entered a Full Ironman distance race and The Outlaw in Nottingham fitted the bill.
I will not bore you with details of 14 or 15 hour training weeks, 5.30am weekday alarm calls to get up and run or swim before work, 3 hour Sunday runs etc, but needless to say the last 30weeks have been hard work.
As I get off the bike, after around 8.5 hours since taking my first swim stroke, I have no doubt I am going to need to draw on this training, but I do not want to solely rely on this to get me around the marathon run. In knowing that I have raised money for a charity who is helping people affected by difficult and upsetting experience I have no doubt that I will have a special incentive to cross the finish line one way or another.
My chosen Charity is the Miscarriage Association, a small charity that helps support people affected by the loss of a baby during pregnancy, an issue that affects a significant amount of couples in the UK and a topic that is close to family, friends and my heart.
I am not asking you to take part in an Ironman triathlon but would appreciate if you would sponsor me and donate as much or as little you feel comfortable, you will be supporting a charity who do great work with limited funds.
