We are a 24 hour search & rescue service to save lives at sea

We have/are turning 50, yes, believe it or not we have/will be celebrating our 50th birthday's and to mark the occasion, we decided to take on a personal challenge, one that would test us mentally, physically and no doubt emotionally.

So, we will be donning our climbing boots and flying off to Tanzania on 14th January to ascend Mount Kilimanjaro. The trek, scheduled to start on 17th January, is expected to take seven days of climbing to conquer the 5,895 metre (19,341 feet) summit of the highest free-standing mountain in the world.

But this is not solely about us, it's also to help raise much needed funds for our local RNLI, the charity that saves lives at sea. The trip is self funded so everything raised will go to the charity.

The Exmouth lifeboat and shore crew consists of approximately 30 volunteers. All are from very different backgrounds. Some work for other emergency services while others are boat builders, sales executives, and IT technicians. In 2018 the crew were called to launch 73 times, assisted 53 people, and saved 3 lives – and that is just our local RNLI.

Nationally the RNLI volunteer lifeboat crews provide a 24-hour rescue service in the UK and Ireland, their seasonal lifeguards look after people on busy beaches and flood Rescue Teams help those affected by flooding.

RNLI crews and lifeguards have saved over 142,700 lives since 1824 but they are more than a rescue service. The RNLI influence, supervise and educate people too. The Community Safety teams explain the risks and share safety knowledge with anyone going out to sea or to the coast. Also, international teams work with like-minded organisations to help tackle drowning in communities at risk all around the world.

As mentioned, most of these brave individuals are volunteers, who give up their time and are prepared to put themselves at risk to save people in difficulty at sea. We live in Exmouth and both ourselves, family and friends all use the beach and water sports activities and do so knowing if we did get into trouble in the water, help is always there. We set our sights on climbing Mount Kilimanjaro this year and thought what better way to use the opportunity than to help raise funds for this important charity.

So please, help us to help them save lives by donating, even a small amount – all donations are very much appreciated!

Thank you
