Story
I have always been a keen cyclist, runner and walker. In the last 10 years years I have been lucky enough to trek on the Himalayas and to cycle in the French Alps..
In 2019 I was diagnosed with Late Onset Limb Girdle Muscular Dystrophy. This is genetic, progressive and incurable. This has now progressed quite rapidly, and I am now using a power chair as I am rather fragile.
When diagnosed, having completed the South West Coastal Path in 2017, I thought I would do the flat Thames Path for MD UK, but Covid and deterioration have intervened.
I have now , with friends and family, organised this 184 mile Challenge to be done in 30 stages originally planned for the weekend, of September 17 and 18, 2022. However, this has now changed!
As a result of the Queen's funeral falling on the same weekend, we have now had to postpone the above date. The new date will be in the Spring of 2023.
The Thames Source to Sea Community Challenge will now take place on Saturday 15th April ( the first 25 stages) and Sunday 16th. April ( the last 5 Stages) 2023.
With the aid of my stroller, and the support of my family , I am hoping, personally, to complete the last Stage of 3 1/2 miles from Cutty Sark to the Barrier. This will be a bit of a challenge for me to say the least, as I can now barely walk at all!
Money's raised from this will go towards research aimed at trying to find a solution for the next generation.
Thankyou!
