Story

Well that’s it.  The walk is done.  Well nearly; the torrential rain the day before we set off put a spanner in the works by making the footpath along the side of Loch Lomond extremely slow going.  The schedule was thrown out completely which meant using public transport to catch up on a short section.

Total distance walked, including detours to find accommodation was around 85 miles.  That equates to the distance of more than three marathons in three days.  I can honestly say we gave it our best shot.

A few thanks are due: to my brother in law, Jules for accompanying me every step of the way, to everyone who has sponsored me; family, friends, colleagues, businesses and all the generous people who I haven’t met but heard about the walk.  Thanks to Mhairi and Cara who were happy for me to take the time to train for the walk and gave me their full support.  And a very big thanks to all the staff at the ARCHIE Foundation who do a great job and I know will make sure your sponsorship money is put to good use.

Now then, I wonder how long it would take to walk from Land’s End to John O’Groats?  Jules and I reckon 36 days should be just about possible......

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I will be walking the full length of the West Highland Way (96 miles) over three days.  Most people take around five to seven days to complete the walk but as I want to raise as much money as possible for the ARCHIE Foundation I wanted to make it a challenge.  I may regret that decision!

Day One will be approximately 40 miles, Day Two will be around 32 miles and Day Three will be a nice easy stroll of 24 miles, but with two big climbs on the way.

I'll start the walk very early on 5th July 2012 and will aim to complete the walk on the evening (well, before midnight anyway) of 7th July.  Three days of sunshine would be nice but three days of rain might mean no Culicoides impunctatus - we don't like them.  Either way, it's going to be a challenge.

My wife and I are very lucky that our daughter has always had good health.  Others are not so fortunate and in the North East of Scotland these children and their families rely on the fantastic work carried out by the ARCHIE Foundation.

The ARCHIE Foundation is the official charity of the Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital, the Children's Wards in Inverness and Elgin and Community based Child Health throughout Grampian, Highland, Orkney and Shetland. All monies donated to the ARCHIE Foundation go directly towards ‘making the difference’ for sick children and their families in the North of Scotland.
