The Challenge
The challenge is to cycle unsupported over 1200 miles from Lands End to John o Groats. I am also walking the three highest peaks in England, Wales & Scotland along the way- Snowdon, Scafell pike and Ben Nevis. The estimated ascent is around 25,000 meters and that's just the cycling!
I plan to be self sufficient and carry all of the kit I require with me. I will be cycling on average 100 miles per day from Lands end through Wales and Snowdonia to walk Snowdon. Then on through the Lake District. Taking a day to walk Scafell Pike. Then on to Scotland.
My brother in law Sean will be joining me in Scotland where we will be averaging 75 miles per day and taking a day to walk Ben Nevis.
The Charity
Back In 2007 my brother in law Sean had surgery to remove a large intestinal tumor, later diagnosed as Gastro-Intestinal Stromal Tumor. Given the relative rarity of this type of cancer, he was referred to the Royal Marsden cancer hospital in London. The tumor returned in 2013, since when he has received daily drug treatment, and also further surgery in 2018, all under the care of The Royal Marsden.
The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity raises money solely to support The Royal Marsden, a world-leading cancer center. We ensure our nurses, doctors and research teams can provide the very best care and develop life-saving treatments, which are used across the UK and around the world. From funding state-of-the-art equipment and groundbreaking research, to creating the very best patient environments, we will never stop looking for ways to improve the lives of people affected by cancer.
