Many of you know that I lost my best friend, Kerry, in a horrific car crash whilst on holiday in NZ 15 months ago. A driver of another car passed over onto their side of the road hitting them head on. The front seat passenger in the other car also sadly lost their life too. Kerry's wife, two young children and a family friend were also in the car. Her wife was seriously injured, fortunately the others received injuries, physically, that are healing. However, obviously they experienced significant trauma that no one should ever have to deal with.
Personally, I’m devastated and still struggling to come to terms with the loss of someone who played such a huge role in my life. Her silence is deafening and I miss her terribly. I do, however, draw energy and solace from the way in which Kerry’s family and other great friends are coping. Its a joy to spend time with her children who are growing up fast, but who, at the same time, warm my heart and provide such enormous hope and Jules who has had to deal with so much, but is an amazing parent. Since they arrived back in the UK, some 3 months after the crash, Winston’s Wish have been providing support through a very difficult time. So, I’ve decided to embark on a number of challenges over 2020 to raise money for them.
I would really appreciate it if you could put your hands in your pocket and donate a little to Winston’s Wish. So this is what I’m doing:
ONE SWIM:
29th February - Polar Challenge - swimming 50m in cold water at Sandford Lido.
TWO RUNS:
27th September - Exmouth 10k
4th October - Plymouth 10k
TWO WALKS:
7th June - Mendip Challenge - 30 mile walk in one day
Summer - Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge - the peaks of Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough, usually in this order, and in under 12 hours.
CYCLES:
Sunday 19th July - The Great West Ride - A 57-mile challenge bike ride from Bristol to Weston-super-Mare via the Mendips & Somerset Levels.
Sunday 6th September - Great Exmoor Cycle Ride - A 66-mile challenge bike ride from Taunton to Blue Anchor near Minehead that follows a spectacular route through Somerset & across magnificent Exmoor.
I may add more challenge as the year goes on!!!
Thanks so much for your support and donation.
