Annefloor's first half-marathon for War Child!

Royal Parks Half Marathon 2019 · 13 October 2019 ·
Hiii friends and family!
As most of you probably already know, I will be running the Royal Parks Half-Marathon for War Child on the 13th of October. Who would have thought that when I decided to move to the UK more than a year ago? I didn’t! I still remember the times when I could not even complete a 5k run – luckily, times have changed. The idea to join this event occured to me when I was working for War Child UK as a Strategy and Research Volunteer a couple of months ago. While writing recommendations on War Child’s 2020 Strategy, I learned how great this organisation is. War Child has really good programmes in DRC, CAR, Afghanistan, Iraq and Jordan. They work with children associated with armed forces and armed groups, street children, refugees and children in prison. Among other things, they provide child friendly spaces for displaced people, offer psychosocial support to deal with any trauma children have experienced and contribute to enhancing education as many children have missed long periods of school.
Children’s rights are violated in conflict and post-conflict situations and we need organisations such as War Child to hold governments accountable and to provide support and care in order to realise the rights of children all over the world. In 2018, War Child UK’s programmes have reached 123,000 children. However, there are much more children who are currently living in war torn areas - 420 million according to a new report from Save the Children. In order to reach more children, War Child UK need all the help they can get! I will try my best to fundraise at least £400 for them, but I need your help in reaching this amount.
With your donation, you can make a difference to the lives of children whose lives have been turned upside-down by conflict. You’ll be helping them receive the care and support they need to overcome the traumas they’ve suffered and you’ll be helping to transform their futures for the better. A donation of any size will make a huge difference to War Child and the important work they do in supporting some of the most vulnerable people in the world.
