We help people with acquired brain injuries to live well and achieve independence

Story

Seven years ago, Anthony sustained a Traumatic Brain Injury from a fall that changed the course of his life. As a result, he was diagnosed with FND (Functional Neurological Disorder) & C-PTSD (Chronic Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) leaving his nervous system stuck in fight and flight.

Nick Bicknell and Anthony have been friends for over 12 years since working together at Gatwick Airport. Soon after Anthony's accident in 2015 Nick took up running and ran this, Run Gatwick marathon in 2018 to raise awareness through FND Action. Finally, after the interruption of the pandemic Nick and Anthony will do the 5k marathon together, to raise awareness of PTSD and trauma that impacts the lives of those suffering with TBI & FND.

All funds will go towards giving those less fortunate, the chance to have EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) counselling through certified therapists recommended through the charity PTSD UK and Brain Injury counselling with Headway Sussex. Anthony, has found both practices a huge benefit in his road to recovery dealing with trauma, which is one of the contributing factors to his FND, so raising funds to allow others to have the same platform to aid them in their road to recovery very important.

Working alongside these charities that understand the complexities of hidden disabilities and the need for direct intervention with a personal pathway for understanding trauma is key to recovery.

Special Thanks to Headway Sussex for supporting me through this journey from the start I couldn't have made it this far without your care through advocacy, counselling, therapy and weekly rehabilitation through the years.
