Elain first attended Ty Hafan Children's Hospice when she was just 1 year old. This year marks 10 years since her first visit in May 2011. 

During the time in which Elain and her family began accessing the hospice for support, it slowly became more and more apparent that the hospice needed some much needed repairs and refurbishment. This work was vital in order to continue provide adequate care and accommodation for families across Mid and South Wales.

A year ago the hospice embarked on an ambitious £1 million refurbishment project. Incredibly, even in the face of COVID-19, the hospice managed to raise almost 80% of the funds required to carry out the work. They are now in desperate need of those last few essential additions that will make Tŷ Hafan truly a hospice fit for the future.

This refurbishment is not just a ‘nice to have’ for Tŷ Hafan; it is vital to their service delivery. Children with life-limiting conditions are living longer because of the expert care available to them, so the hospice needs to keep pace with the changing world of healthcare and refurbish their equipment, facilities, and overall environment to meet increasingly complex demands.

The last few parts of the refurbishment project include finishing the 'Den' area which is specifically for teenage children and older siblings to have their own private and fit for purpose space.

Ten years ago we never dared imagine a world with an (almost) 11 year old Elain and yet now here we are, staring into her teenage years!

Over the next few years, as we visit the hospice again post COVID-19, the much needed Den area will become an important part of the hospice for Elain along with her teenage siblings and relatives.
