Story
In February I was admitted to Norfolk and Norwich Hospital with a severe case of anaemia, carrying only 4 units of blood when the average is between 10-12 units. The nurses and staff acted extremely quickly and after many tests, discovered that I had a tumour in my stomach. In addition, they realised that I also had a concerning blood clot in my superior mesenteric vein, located just behind my stomach. After it became clear that I was bleeding internally, my surgeon Mr Cheong opted to conduct an emergency operation to remove the tumour. During the operation there were concerns that my tumour was cancerous, a sarcoma, and as a result a number of lymph nodes were removed as a precaution. These samples were then sent for testing and after three weeks of waiting, I finally received the news. My tumour is extremely rare, in fact I am believed to be the fourth person in the world to have it but, most importantly, although it appeared to be cancerous it is in fact benign!! In addition, my blood clot is also beginning to slowly decrease in size!
I am extremely grateful for all the care and support that I received from the staff at Norfolk and Norwich Hospital, and of course for the incredible work of Mr Cheong. Therefore, I am hoping to raise money in order that they may continue to provide outstanding care to those in similar situations.
