I'm going to be honest, I really hate running and find it a painful experience but I'm running the London Marathon for Breast Cancer Now because I feel it's really important that I chip in to help, just a tiny bit, to combat what is a destructive, painful, and unfair illness. I feel this way for two reasons. Firstly, my Grandma, who I'm very close to, has recently battled breast cancer. Although her battle was successful, the battles that many women fight are not and I've seen first hand the anguish it can cause - the endless hospital appointments, the uncertainty, the fear, and the strain is something no-one should have to experience. Secondly, not directly related to breast cancer but cancer related nonetheless, my mum died of cancer on the 31st October 2016. I saw her just before and it's really hard to describe what it's like to see someone in that state. You hear about stories and the likes but to see someone so ravaged and helpless, weak and diminished was something I'd never experienced and hope to never experience again - especially not with a family member, loved one or friend. That's why I really feel it's important to try and raise as much money as I can to help Breast Cancer Now do what they do best; help people suffering from breast cancer and strive to prevent and defeat the illness. Like I said, I hate running but I'm going to do the marathon, despite that it will be a painful experience because my training hasn't been what it should... an understatement. So give as much as you can to this great cause because the pain it'll be causing you to donate will be nothing compared to the pain the marathon is going to cause me which, in turn, isn't even a fraction of the pain breast cancer causes to 1 in 8 women, and their families, in the U.K. Thank you!
