Marie Curie is here for anyone with an illness they’re likely to die from, and those close to them. Whatever the illness, wherever you are, we’re with you to the end. We bring 75 years of experience and leading research to the care we give you at home, in our hospices and over the phone.

Story

Thanks for visiting my JustGiving page - I really appreciate you taking the time.

This year is the 10th anniversary of my diagnosis with lymphoma - cancer of the lymph system and I am marking the occassion by doing a fund raising trek in aid of Marie Curie.

So I have signed up for a 'wee dander' - a 100km (60 mile) trek through the 40°C humid jungles of northern Cambodia over 5 days this October (2012).

The trek is mostly through jungle and rice paddies following ancient cow cart tracks. It involves a climb of 487m (1580 ft) and includes places with such challenging names as 'Wat Preash Bat Bun Tham'. We finish the challenge in the ancient ruins of Angkor Wat (as seen in the film 'Tomb Raider') where we will at last be able to tend the many blisters picked up en route!

Am I mad? Very probably but hey you only live once .. or perhaps that's you only die once....!!

The last time I did this a couple of years ago when I went to Petra in southern Jordan, the group raised almost £90,000 for the local Marie Curie hospice in Belfast. This time we fully intend to exceed that amount and are well on the way to succeeding.

Financially, times are very rough for everyone at the minute but unfortunately Cancer doesnt care about that and continues to share its misery undeterred. So whatever you can give will be put to exceptionally good use by the wonderful people at the hospice.

Please, please give whatever you can to this fabulous cause - if only to see me suffer for 5 days..!!
