Story

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the start of the Great War. In 1914 national borders were heavily defended. Today, in much of Europe borders have become invisible and have lost their significance. To celebrate this development I plan to ride on my old-timer Porsche tractor from my place of birth in Southern Germany to my new home in North Wales. As a retired general practitioner I would like to use the opportunity to ask for donations for Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors without Borders). In the modern information age our responsibility transcends borders and I would be grateful for any support for this admirable organisation that works for people in countries without functioning health care system and who are suffering beyond anything that would be imaginable in our rich western world.

The tractor was first registered in April 1960 and belonged to my grandfather. I learnt to drive on a Porsche! I have been attached to this vehicle since my primary school days. I look forward to the opportunity to travel at 10 miles per hour over a distance of 1000 miles from Schwendi in Southern Germany along the Rhine to Cologne and then into Belgium and France before crossing the Channel to proceed via Canterbury, London, Coventry and then home to Wales. I plan to visit sites of historical importance and to report on my adventures on my website.
