Ashley’s Big Lakes Challenge · 12 September 2020

We’re Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM), and we’re a suicide prevention charity. We host a helpline for people affected by suicide, as well as vital online resources for anyone who needs them.

Story

With gross stupidity, I will be attempting to swim the 7 mile length of Ullswater and then fours days later I will be taking on a solo crossing of the 11 mile length of Windermere. They are both deep lakes so the water will be cold.

The Ullswater swim will take several hours and, well, the Windemere solo crossing will take even longer...these are two huge challenges for me.

Just in case you think I am super good swimmer...10 years ago I couldn’t even swim a length frontcrawl. I am a bit like Free Willy - but without propulsion! If I make it, let’s hope Greenpeace don’t turn up and push me back in!

I am doing this to raise much needed funds for The Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) which is leading a movement against suicide, the single biggest killer of men under 45 in the UK. Our goal is a life less miserable for you, your friends, your family and for all men.CALM PROVIDES> A free and anonymous helpline 0800 58 58 58 and webchat (5pm-12am daily) staffed by trained professionals> Bereavement support > A website www.theCALMzone.net with inspiring content> Campaigns tackling stereotypes of masculinity, suicide and mental health. Help us save lives.
