Ava's Fund
Fundraising for Towards Tomorrow Together
Story
My husband and I have set up Ava’s Fund, in memory of our beautiful daughter who was stillborn on Thursday 21st July 2016, a day before her due date.
Having been in contact with the charity Towards Tomorrow Together, they have contacted Derriford Hosptial in Plymouth, Devon, where Ava was born and all the fundraising we do in Ava’s memory is going to be put in to a restricted fund and specifically used to provide specialist training to the midwives and nurses within the maternity department.
Once we have met our initial target we will continue to raise money and have some ideas of how we'd like the money raised to be used... we will keep you posted.
The bereavement training provided provided by Mel Scott, a qualified teacher and therapist, is critical in helping achieve consistent, individual and compassionate care for families affected by the death of a baby. She also speaks about information within policies around saving babies lives. Therefore the staff will better understand their role in prevention, and the emotional impact will make them feel more inspired to do all they can.
*UPDATE - We are happy to annouce we have reached our initial target of £2500 and are now working with Towards Tomorrow Together to raise awareness of and reduce stillbirth rates across the South West of England.
