Founded in 2007 by Yoel Zilberman and On Rifman, HaShomer HaChadash, supported by JNF UK, is an Israeli non-profit organization focused on our collective obligation to the Land of Israel.

Initially established as a grassroots initiative to help farmers and ranchers in the Negev and Galilee protect their land and livestock from theft and arson, what began as a personal mission has since become a movement of thousands.

Within a decade of activity, HaShomer has grown to encompass numerous transformative educational programs, alongside its nightly guarding activities. Such programs take thousands of youth from Israel and abroad into the field, in order to work the land and impart the values of mutual responsibility, civic courage and love of the land to the next generation.

Today HaShomer engages over 38,000 volunteers, spanning the religious and political spectrum, who give up their time to help farmers in over 70 locations in the Negev & Galilee. In total HaShomer helps safeguard a staggering 190,000 acres of land!
When the fires raged across Israel, HaShomer, stood by their motto of ‘I am my brother’s keeper’ and opened emergency response centers in both the Negev and the Galilee, mobilizing hundreds of their volunteers and getting them to where they were needed most.
Volunteers provided direct assistance to populations affected by fires and patrolled forestry near settled areas to prevent further fires from being ignited. In this manner, numerous fires were prevented and extinguished by HaShomer volunteers. However, the story of fires is unfortunately a situation that HaShomer has to encounter all year round.
HaShomer have dedicated mobile emergency response units, manned entirely by volunteers, who are the first on the scene to deal with forest fires or arson attacks against farmers. Thanks to their hard work many of the fires can be controlled before they can cause widespread damage. However, this team is urgent need of firefighting equipment, including fireproof clothing, high powered air blowers (to control the direction of the fire) and more, in order to carry out their important work.
In the true spirit of ‘Am Yisrael’ the incredible participants of Bnei Akiva Hachshara have taken it upon themselves to raise money for this equipment.
