Update - Friday 23 March - The Home Straight
We're nearly there, onlya few hours left and we're currently sitting at £963! Whilst this is a fantastic total and already vastly exceeds what we had hoped to raise we can't help but thinking that we're only £37 away from the oh-so much more impressive sum of £1000!We'd love to be able to tell Marie Curie that we've raised a nice round figure for them and so if you can spare any amount to help us towards this, please hit the big blue button above. We'll love you forever.Update - Saturday 17 March - Team Daffodil
Come rain or shine nothing was going to stop 'Team Daffodil' from collecting for Marie Curie on the mean streets of Birmingham last weekend! Armed with daffodils, charm and what was essentially a yellow bib, Gurdip, Kyleigh and Mark braved torrential rain and experienced an eclectic mix of the public. This included one woman's marriage proposal, a group of facebook stalkers, a stream of people who asked for directions without donating (grr), reuniting lost/crying children with their parents and one individual who just stood and stared in silence.
Update - Friday 16 March - School Fete
Last Friday the BB 50/50 team took over the office client suite, turning it into a vintage themed, throwback school fete complete with a book stall, charity chic clothing sale, bake sale and of course the requisite quess the number of sweets in the jar game. In all, the event was a roaring success with attendees not only from Bevan Brittan, but from other firms within the building and accross Birmingham. It's safe to say that not many could resist the lure of fresh samosas, spring rolls and some wonderful baking.
Running alongside the school fete was the team's Table Football Competition. Exceeding all expectation, there were some 20 teams in attendance, again from accross Birmingham, making for a rather rawcus lunchtime. Predictably, compeition ran high with numerous games going down to the wire, including a nailbiter of a final in which two teams from Real Staffing traded goals for a full 5 minutes before the decider was scored sconds before the final whistle.
All in all the entire event was a roaring success raising over £600 for Marie Curie. Huge thanks go out to all those who generously donated food, drinks and cakes and to those who came along to support us. We couldn't have done it without you!
Update - Tuesday 21 February - Pancake Day
On Tuesday the BB 50/50 team hit the pans (ok, the packets), in an office pancake delivery service. Knowing your office and the people in it is key to raising money and we knew we'd have no trouble finding people with a particular penchant for pankcakes.
Performing their best "trolly-dolly" routine, Chris, Mark and Tash hit to floor, trolley en-tow, with stacks of freshly cooked (ok, warmed), pancakes and a mouth watering selection of toppings. Real Canadian Maple Syrup, Golden Syrup, Nutella, lemon and sugar, strawberries, bananas and cream. The works!
Suffice to say, the pancakes and indeed most of the toppings didn't last very long. Most people were reserved, treating themselves to one helping, some pushed the boat out and had two but there are reports from around the office that some went as far as three and four!
All in all, Pancake Day was a great success and helped us to raise £46.80 for the Big Build appeal.
The Beginning
Hi there!
Thanks for taking a little time out of your busy day to visit our Just Giving page in support of Marie Curie Cancer Care.
We know how precious your time is, so if you’re the sort of person who likes to jump in, donate and stay up to date at your own leisure we’ve aimed to keep our mission objective as to the point as possible.
However, if you would prefer to know more about Marie Curie, the Big Build, us or what we’re up to, fear not, as we’ve provided all the necessary links to further information along the way. We’ll also be keeping this page up to date with what we’re doing and when.
The Short and Sweet
What is the Big Build?
The Big Build is a fundraising initiative by Marie Curie Cancer Care to help build a new Marie Curie Hospice in the West Midlands. The aim is to raise £7,000,000 and we’re here to do whatever we can to achieve that goal.
So what’s the Challenge?
Marie Curie have given us £50 and 50 days to turn their money into a profit. We’re hoping to raise at least £500, but obviously we’d love to raise more. That’s where you come in.
Who are the “us” you refer to?
We are a small group of eight people who work in the Birmingham office of Bevan Brittan LLP, a firm of solicitors with offices in Birmingham (funnily enough), Bristol and London. Check out the photo gallery below for a mug shot.
Okay, so how are you going to make a profit?
Ah, the all important question. We have lots of ideas, some of which are still a secret (shh!) but since you’ve taken the time to visit our page, we can probably let you in on a little secret. Our main event, our pièce de résistance, our BBBBB (Bevan Brittan Big Build Bonanza) will take place in our Birmingham office on Friday 16 March 2012.
Do you long for a spot of lunch, crave some cake, ache for some charity chic apparel, relish the idea of a raffle or fancy some foosball? If so, why not join us for our School Fete themed lunch event. Bunting, bakery and benefaction at Bevan Brittan Birmingham, ooh, that’s six Bs!
If you can make it, we’d love for you to come along, join in the fun and help us raise some money for the Marie Curie Big Build.
You’ve won me over! How do I donate?
There are two ways in which you can donate to our Big Build efforts:
1. Click that big blue “donate” button at the top right of this page; or
2. Send us a text to 70070 with the following information:
BBMC50
£(the amount in pounds that you would like to donate as either, 1,2,3,4,5 or 10)
There are no hidden costs in sending us a donation by text. Thanks to Vodafone it's completely free for you, us and Marie Curie!
All donations would be extremely gratefully received.
Throughout the 50 days we will also be running a series of small events in and around the office to help turn that £50 into £500 and hopefully more. We’ll keep you posted with news, and pictures as often as possible. Who knows? If you can come along to our School Fete you might even make an appearance in the photo gallery!
Many thanks
The Bevan Brittan Big Build team
