We increase the pool of stem cell donors to give patients a second chance of life

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

One of our staff members recently lost their father to Mantle Cell Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma, one of the rarest forms of Non-Hodgkins Lymphomas.

Every 20 minutes someone in the UK & Ireland is diagnosed with blood cancer. That's an average of 72 people per day in the UK alone! 2000 people per year need a donor and only 50% of them will find a suitable match. It only takes a two minute cheek swab to go on standby to Save a Life.

We want to raise awareness of these facts and what this fantastic charity does.

To do this a fantastic but only small team of BioHorizons and Henry Schein Ireland staff and customers are taking on the Mizen Head to Malin Head Cycle.

*EDIT: Through personal reasons and injuries, since starting the training we have gone from a team of 10 to only 1. Pat Bolger from Henry Schein is still determined to do this challenge on his own! As he is doing it on his own the dates may vary. He will be starting on Thursday 22nd and aiming to complete it in only 2 days!

He will be covering the length of Ireland, possibly battling wind and rain but definitely tackling hills in order to complete this challenge. It will make it so much easier if he knows he has managed to raise awareness and knowledge of the work of this charity. Please take a look at how to join the donor list.

If you want to contribute to this great cause too then please do so via this website or by texting DKMS47 and the amount to 70070.

You can donate £1, £2, £3, £4, £5 or £10 by text; for any other amount you'll need to donate online.

If you do join the donor list then please share this with us and let us know. It will make the team smile during the tough times in the challenge!
