Story
On the 30th November 2020, our son Thomas was born. This was the happiest day of our lives, but could easily been one of the worst had it not been for the NICU at Salisbury District Hospital. Thomas was born at full term, but at some point he had contracted group B strep. This meant that when he was born, he had a tough time of it.
From the moment he arrived (and even before he did) we were all tremendously well looked after. After the initial dangers had subsided, we still were in the hospital for 10 days, before it was safe to release us to go home.
As well as the outstanding medical care we received, the facilities on the NICU (in particular the kangaroo care rooms, and the free wi-if) were vital in making sure that this hospital stay was as pleasant as it could be, and the fact that it allowed Thomas to be with his Mummy 24 hours a day in those early precious days, is something that we will be forever thankful for. It’s a mark of how well looked after we were, that we look back fondly on this time, in spite of the circumstances.
Obviously nothing can ever fully repay somebody saving your baby’s life, but we would like to do whatever we can, to make sure those services are there for anybody else who needs them.
