"Get on with it then, Mum!"
We're doing the London 10K Run on Sunday July 12th in memory of Tim Brooks.
Last November, my 42 year old son passed away from brain cancer. During his brave battle over 2½ years with 2 brain tumour operations, radiotherapy and chemotherapy, he lived his life with amazing optimism, a quiet dignity and great strength, showing his two young daughters that whatever life throws at you, you never moan about it, you concentrate on appreciating every moment in life and creating memories, you always give out and smile, and that way you find the right way to live.
In 2012 Tim said that he wanted to do the London 10K to raise funds for Brain Tumour Research because he wanted to give something back following his first operation, so he and I and my daughter joined him. It was an amazing day, although a great effort for Tim to do.
I promised him last November that I would do the London 10K again in his memory, so on July 12th my daughter and I and some of his family and friends are joining us to celebrate his life. I know that he will be along with us in spirit, telling us with a smile “Give it some welly” and “Get on with it then Mum!”
At the end of his life, Tim was looked after by Oakhaven Hospice in Lymington, a wonderful, peaceful place, and where his care was filled with such love and compassion and understanding. Nothing was too much trouble. It is staffed by MacMillan nurses, and like many hospices, it has to be self-funding and they desperately need our help just to keep going. See their website at www.oakhavenhospice.co.uk for more details of what they do.
Please help us to smash our target. And if you want to join in as a team member, please click the link.
A huge thankyou from us and Oakhaven Hospice!
