UNICEF works to build a better world for every child, every day. A world where every child has the chance to fulfil their potential and grow up healthy and safe. We work in 190 countries and territories around the world, reaching more children than any other humanitarian organisation.

Story

Barclays staff are taking part this year in the epic Round the Island race. Thanks to Clipper we are able to do so as a cross-cluster team supporting Clipper's charity of choice - Unicef. The 70 foot Clipper yachts are not for the fainthearted with over 1300 ft2 of mainsail and more than 1800ft2 of headsail, they are capable of speeds in excess of 35 knots.

Unicef gives us, a team of 12 novices, intermediate and experienced sailors most of us sailing together for the first time ever, chance to give back through an organisation that has global impact. Promoting health, security and education to less fortunate children on a truly global scale.

We will have to pull together to keep control of the yacht, as they steer it well clear of the infamous shallows surrounding the Isle of Wight, take maximum advantage of every gust of wind, and avoid a collision with the other challengers, in order to circumnavigate the island in the fastest time possible. Not to mention squishing in the tiny sleeping compartments most of the crew are not used to (it is a racing yacht!).

Every pound you give will help Unicef to give a chance to less fortunate children around the world. Supporting us, your money is worth every penny. Please give generously.
