Sepsis accounts for 48,000 deaths annually in the UK, that’s more than breast, bowel and prostate cancer put together. Sepsis is what happens when our immune system overreacts to an infection. Symptoms initially present as flu like but can rapidly deteriorate into a life threatening condition.

Story

In late December 2015 we tragically lost Josh Morgan to Sepsis.

Josh was my Cousin. He was 24 years old.

Josh was an enormous character; both in physicality and spirit. He was quite simply the nicest, friendliest and funniest guy I have had the pleasure to know (and he was always a pleasure!). Those who knew him loved him, and love him still; those who were not fortunate enough to meet him and like him yet (because you would have done!) may still capture a flavour of the great man through the loving and fond memories that all who did hold of him and share whenever possible.

Josh left a big hole in the world; one any number of his family & friends try to occupy in their daily lives (#BeMoreJosh). One way I would like to try and plug the gap some is by raising some money for The UK Sepsis Trust in his name and memory.

4 months exactly from the date of writing, on the 25th September 2016, I will be "running"  (or as near to this speed as I can muster) the 26.2 long miles around Nottingham's Robin Hood Marathon. If you can see yourself clear to supporting me honour Josh I would be much obliged!

Aiming for £2,160, and i'll tell you for why;

The guys at the UK Sepsis Trust have estimated that for every £90 that is raised it saves 1 life. I would be humbled if I can raise enough money to save 24 lives; one for every year of Josh's.

I will leave you, much like a bad shampoo commercial, with the "science bit"...but before I do, please ....any help you can give by way of a donation can go a long way to saving someone's life!!#carpethatfuckingdiem

Richard.

Sepsis is a life threatening illness triggered when an infection causes the body's immune system to go into overdrive, damaging its own organs. It affects 150,000 people every year in the UK; resulting in a staggering 44,000 deaths (with over 1,000 being children). That is more than bowel, breast and prostate cancer combined. Sepsis is the biggest direct cause of death in pregnancy, and a patient with sepsis is 5 times more likely to die than someone who has just had a heart attack.

The UK Sepsis Trust (UKST) was established as a charity in 2012 with the objective of saving 12,500 lives every year. They are committed to changing the way the NHS deals with Sepsis, increasing public awareness and supporting those affected by Sepsis. Every penny donated is valuable in helping them achieve their goals. Together we can mend Sepsis.
