Welcome to the beat it project! a fundraising campaign of epic drumming proportions!
my name is Dionne, I am a photographer and drummer from Manchester, my target is to photograph 50 drummers across all genres , and holding a ticketed auction evening (venue to be confirmed) where signed memoribillia and drum ware will be auctioned off , alongside an exhibition of images to raise funds for Men's Cancer research at the Christie Hospital.
I started this project to make a difference to the lives of men who are diagnosed with Urogenital cancers, including testicular and prostate.
In 2001 my husband was diagnosed with testicular cancer and consequently went through surgery and radiotherapy treatments at the Christie Hospital, Manchester. After being in remission for 2 years, he was diagnosed with another testicular tumour, unrelated to the previous one and more agressive. This meant further surgery and radiotherapy at the Christie Hospital, which luckily is on our doorstep in Manchester.
We will always be grateful to the Christie for the treatment my husband received, and for contributing to his speedy recovery and advising on the after effects of this type of cancer.
Unfortunately not all cases are as straightforward as ours, with some men experiencing more serious outcomes, depending on how advanced their particular cancer is.
I am hoping to raise awareness , by contributing funds for educational meetings, seminars and courses for staff, research into cutting edge radiotherapy procedures and a specialist research job post in Uro-Oncology at the Christie.
thanks for supporting this great cause!
