On 24th December 2014 at 21.44pm our beautiful
baby boy, Beau Charles Shearer-Rust was born sleeping. Silent but perfect, weighing just under 1lb. My waters had broken four days earlier, despite my pregnancy being classed as low risk with no problems being detected by the routine scans. At
just 22 ½ weeks of pregnancy, Beau was simply too early to be saved. Losing Beau has left such a giant hole in our hearts. Beau was only with us for a short while, but he has changed
our lives forever and he will never be forgotten. I am raising money for Sands in memory of Beau.
Sands provided us with a memory box which we have filled with Beau's first blanket, first toy, scan photo's, footprints and other lovely memories of our beautiful boy.
Beau was born in the bereavement suite at Basildon hospital which is partially funded by Sands. This contains a 'cuddle cot' which meant that we were able to spend as much time as we needed to say goodbye to Beau, away from the rest of the busy labour ward.
Sands also provided us with a bereavement support pack which contained a large amount of practical information relating to the difficult decisions that we had to make soon after we lost Beau. This included deciding whether to have a post mortem, planning Beau's funeral and saying goodbye.
Sands also work with health professionals to improve the support and care offered before during and after delivery, where a baby has died.
Me and my friend Shirley will be running the Brighton 10k on Sunday 12th April for Sands. All donations will be gratefully received.
