Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.  Bebe, Noah & Friends - Lidl Mudder adventure for Microtia UK.

On Sunday 24th September at 12pm my brother and I, and my bravest friends (see My team mates) will be taking part in Lidl Mudder for the amazing charity, Microtia UK. Lidl Mudder is an exhilarating 1-mile mud-fest obstacle course, giving us the chance to get muddy and work as a team.  The obstacle course is designed for kids aged 5-12 to take the ultimate test and have a super fun family day out to remember!

My team mates:

Clemmie & Lettice Angelini-Hurll, Sophie & William Pym, Cleo & Miles Alsey, Josh & Jake Larkman, Minty & Marina Syms, Lina & Sharif El-Araby, Romily & Gigi & Margot Salversen, George & Sophie Keen, Zara & Willow Bonnell, Annie & Emily Ward, Mimi & Amelie Alcock-Perez, Wilbur Horsley, Arthur Brown, Tilly Wilsher, Charlie Lane, Oscar Werner, Isla Calvert, Georgie Peck, Bella Chambers

Abit about me and Microtia…

My name is Beatrice and I was born with unilateral Microtia affecting my left ear.  This means my outer ear and ear canal did not develop properly, resulting in a ‘little’ ear and almost complete hearing loss on my left  side.  My Microtia means that I often have to work twice as hard in a lot of settings – from being at school; in the classroom or playground, to crowded shopping centres or other noisy environments, I can lose my spatial awareness quite easily and find certain loud sounds upsetting.  For that reason, I wear a bone-anchored hearing aid (BAHA) which helps me a lot.

About Microtia UK…

Microtia UK is a registered charity that is dedicated to providing support, information and resources to those affected by Microtia. Thanks to this support my parents were able to quickly understand my condition, the options in the future and as a result, avoid feeling overwhelmed.  This allowed us to enjoy every moment of my early life and focus entirely on letting me become the gorgeous, funny, confident, kind, capable and intelligent 7 year old I am today! P.S. My mum wrote that last bit xx

1:6000 children are born with microtia. Microtia results in underdeveloped ear(s) and impacts hearing. It can impact the heart, kidneys, different parts of the face and spine. There is an ongoing question whether microtia is environmental or genetic or a combination.
