Story
In November 2022 I am trekking through the Knuckles Mountain Range, in central Sri Lanka. Through the day we will be following little-trodden trails through rice paddies and tea-blanketed highlands, passing waterfalls and small mountain villages towards the highest point, Knuckles Peak. At night we will be staying on the mountain before setting off on the next part of our walk the next morning.
I'm participating in this challenge to raise funds for Genesis Research Trust, who do vital medical research to improve the health of women and babies. So many of my friends and family including myself have experienced issues covered by this charity's research.
In the UK 1 in 4 pregnancies ends in miscarriage; 1 in 10 couples struggle to conceive; 9 babies are stillborn every day and 60,000 babies are born prematurely. Founded by Prof. Lord Robert Winston, Genesis Research Trust is the UK’s largest collaboration of reproductive health researchers. Their mission is to fund original research to investigate the causes of infertility, miscarriage, stillbirth, and premature birth and find better ways to diagnose and treat them.
