I only started running in April and I’ve gone from not being able to run to my garden gate to covering half the distance of a half marathon. 

I’ve completed a 10k and have another two entered before the Cardiff half. I’m running three to four times a week religiously to ensure I’m giving this my all. I’ll never be quick, but I don’t care about time, I want to finish and know that I’ve done my best. If someone had told me at the beginning of the year that I would have lost three stone and entered a half marathon this year, I would have laughed in their face. But then my reaction would have been similar if someone had told me we would lose four beloved family members and my darling dog in the first 7 months of this year - and that sadly happened. So it shows that anything can happen, and this is something I have chosen to do and that I have control of. 

Myself, family members and friends close to me have or have had mental health issues. Thankfully I feel in control of mine now but I am aware that for many life is a daily struggle. I’ve found a kind of therapy in running so I’ve decided to turn it to a positive and raise some money by pushing myself out of my comfort zone, which is how so many people with mental health issues feel daily. 

No one should be suffering in silence or suffering on their own.
