Many people have heard of Motor Neurone Disease, and some of you will remember the ‘Ice Bucket Challenge’ a few years ago, raising awareness of ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) the most debilitating of the conditions under the MND bracket.
Rich is a friend and a colleague to many, as well as a wonderful son, brother, nephew, cousin, husband, uncle and godfather.
Rich was diagnosed with MND in July 2020 after a year of tests and treatments to understand why he was developing weakness and muscle twitching. His diagnosis was a shock to everyone, but after a (completely warranted) wobble - Rich and those closest to him have met this news with positivity and determination, making the changes he needs but living as close to a normal life as possible.
MND is a difficult condition to treat, owing to the complicated way the disease affects the body and also it being relatively rare - there is little active treatment. Rich does not let this stop him, and he maintains his strong will and sense of humour every single day.
We are hopeful there can be a breakthrough in treatment not only for Rich but all the other people out there with this condition - and so we run!
20th JULY 2021 - Cat has had to change her plans a little and will be carrying out 52 Parkruns in 52 weeks - each at a different location! This is so Rich has the care he needs and can join Cat on the road! It’s not a half marathon - granted, but it’s still pretty ok x
5th SEPTEMBER 2021 - Bedford Half Marathon completed! Only 47 more Parkruns for Cat to do!
