In the UK, a woman dies every two hours from ovarian cancer. As the leading ovarian cancer research charity, we’re working to change that. By finding new and better ways to prevent, treat and detect ovarian cancer, we will ensure a future where no woman dies of ovarian cancer.

Story

On 29th March this year, my mum, Sian, passed away after a 15 month battle with ovarian cancer. Mum died just two days before her 69th birthday, but in her time did so much with her life, always focusing on supporting others. Beyond raising three children, making a fantastic home (both in the UK and New Zealand) and being a great teacher, an amazing cook and an attentive gardener, mum also took on some huge challenges in her life; like taking herself out to Nepal to teach and help re-build a school, following the earthquake in 2015; campaigning hard for more recognition for the Welsh language in her younger days; and volunteering to teach English to refugees. Everything mum did aimed at helping others to grow and everyone she met was always greeted with a huge smile. Her loss has left a massive hole in our family, but she leaves us with so many wonderful memories.

Shortly before mum died, I decided to take part in the 2018 Ride London challenge to raise funds for Ovarian Cancer Action. We didn't know then that the time we had left would be so short, so now more than ever, I want to do what I can for this cause. So I will be riding 100 miles in a day around the streets of London and Surrey in July 2018 in the Ride London event. And to add to the challenge, I've also set myself the goal of riding 150 miles, in a day, around the coast of the Isle of Wight in early July.

Ovarian cancer is the biggest gynaecological killer in the UK, claiming the life of a woman every 2 hours. Many women still do not know the symptoms, leading to late diagnosis:  http://ovarian.org.uk/ovarian-cancer/what-are-the-symptoms/

So any thing that you can give to support this cause would be fantastic. I hope that the funds raised will go some way towards ensuring ovarian cancer doesn't continue to devastate other lives in the future. Thanks for viewing my page.
