Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
As you may know in October of last year my brother Josh died of cancer and this last year i have been wondering what i can do to raise money and to support cancer research as a way of thanking the people who helped him so much, so finally me and my friend sam have come up with the idea of a 1000 mile round trip to cycle to amsterdam and back to raise money for a charity for which we can both relate to.
To give you an idea of our perilous journey (excluding all motorways and favouring minor roads) we will start by travelling north along costal roads towards the great northern city of newcastle upon tyne (321.6miles) via epic monuments such as st james park (we refuse to call it the sports direct stadium), the stadium of light, whitby for crabbing and scampy, skegness or skegvegas (as it is more commonly known) and other such northern monuments and delights!
Via newcastle (pet, Y-Ayee man) we will take the ferry, hanging a right to holland, amsterdam (349.1miles) where we will proceed to take a mini tour of the Ajax arena home of the mighty Dennis bergkamp!!! Then on to the town of Hillegom (Hill-a-homme) where Sam's sibling resides and there we will be provided with PROPER beds after the first 1/3 (368.4miles) of our grueling journey!
After this we will proceed through more delights holland has to offer crossing its rarely heard of island regions of Zeeland, heading towards the webbed feet land of the flemish! Once we arrive, we will trek through belgiums rugged terrian, heading towards Bruges (564.8miles)! REJOICE!! we are just over halfway!!! :D
After fearlessly conquering this gothic city sam and i will turn our journey north and head along the coastal road for a few miles before turning back in land to commence possibly the 2nd most important and risky section of our journey, to the french city of lille (656.1miles deep in enemy territory) important i hear you cry? yes indeed, for lille is the home of a certain Eden Hazard! upon arriving in lille we will attempt to lure the speedy and skillfull belgian winger from his left wing spot at the ligue1 club, to the sacred turf of the emirates stadium in north london (home of Arsenal FC, which will appear later in our journey)! a spot of tapping up you could say! in non footballing terms we will be visiting the french city of lille and annoying a young belgian man!
After our exploits in Lille we quickly head back towards the coast of France to visit the famous town of Dunkerque (721.8miles) to explore some of its WW2 history. Then, we travel along the coast for a few more miles before reaching Calais (751.3miles)
After planting our feet back on home soil in Dover (754.8miles) we start to head north on what could be called the home stretch!!! We head from Dover accross to Folkstone where we will head north through the beautiful county of Kent towards the banks of the river Thames in central London (848.8miles)
Then once crossing the Thames we will take in to account some well earned sight seeing, spending time taking some happy snaps of "Big Ben", The houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey and the Cenotaph and potentiallty Buckingham palace to give old Liz a visit!
Then on to the most important and historic stage of our journey, once we circumnavigate Londons horrific roads, we head towards a monument known at Ashburton Grove, also known as the Emirates Stadium (855.8miles, Boosh) where we will pay hommage to the legend that is Theirry Henry (TH14) After kissing his statue and performing a lap of honour around the stadium (inside or out, its your choice Arsene) we head back towards the land of the Shire!
En route to the shire and this is just to keep family members happy we will visit the decrepid football stadium in Peterborough (968.3miles) that is known as london road, after this brisk stop we will head back towards pork pie land stopping only if required due to milometers to do a lap of rutland water before finally completing our marathon journey, coasting back into melton (1010.7miles )as broken bodys and minds ready for your lovng embrace and a cold beer!
Many thanks
Ben Crump and Sam Whitworth!
