Ben's First Marathon!
Fundraising for CITIZENS UK
Story
I'm running my first ever marathon to raise money for South Manchester Sanctuary, a Community Sponsorship group that I've set up along with other local people in Hulme/Manchester. All the money raised will go towards the resettlement of a refugee family in our local area, as part of the national Community Sponsorship scheme, established by the Home Office and run by Reset UK. Find out more here: https://resetuk.org
People fleeing war and persecution undertake unimaginably arduous and dangerous journeys to seek protection for themselves and their families. They deserve a safe haven, a warm welcome and an opportunity to rebuild their lives. But sadly what they often encounter when they reach Europe and the UK is further danger, hostility, prejudice and a slow, cruel, and arcane asylum process. Community Sponsorship is a practical way to make a real difference, providing a safe route for a refugee family to resettle in the UK.
WHO ARE WE, AND WHAT ARE WE DOING?
We're a group of concerned people who live and/or work in South Manchester, predominantly Hulme & Chorlton. We have committed to support a refugee family to resettle in our local area through the Community Sponsorship scheme.
As part of our commitment, we need to:
- Raise £11,000. Please give what you can!
- Find a home in South Manchester rented at, or close to the cost of housing benefits
- Support their transition to life in the UK.
