Story

Hi my name is Ben Warry. I am 26 years of age. If you are like me, you have probably felt lost, anxious, confused, depressed or helpless. I think everyone has at some point in time or you know someone who has. Luckily, for a lot of people these feelings are just momentary. They are temporary. But for some, that isn't the case. For some, those feelings can become 'life'.

I have witnessed first-hand, through family and friends, the effect that mental health problems can have on both the individual and those loved ones around them. I want to help others so that they don't have to face the same struggles and so have chosen to support a charity close to my heart and mind.

I know only too well what a lack of mental wellbeing can result in. 1 in 4 of us will experience a mental health problem throughout our lifetime. By 2030, it is estimated that there will be approximately two million more adults in the UK with mental health problems than there were in 2013, and this is set to continue.

Whether we're seeing more cases now just because we're a more open society or if it's a result of social pressures, I don't know. One thing I do know for sure is that these people need help, and we can all do our part in raising awareness. Because talking friends out of suicide and talking through their problems is probably one of the scariest things to go through. But that makes awareness and education around mental health all the more worth it.

Depression, isolation, institutionalisation and suicide, no-one should be feeling this way, and when they do, they should not be facing it alone. That is why Mind are such an important charity. Mind is a charity that helps raise awareness of mental health issues and provides professional support to those who need it through their hotlines and offices where available. If we're going to take a big step towards better mental health, it had better be a big one, hence my choice of raising money for Mind.

All money donated goes straight to Mind and into a small step towards better mental health for us all. If you have experienced any mental health difficulty, and you can see a future without it, please support this cause by donating what ever you can, because each life saved from a mental difficulty is worth more than money.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails.
