Derby County Football Club has the ability to engage people, raising hopes and aspirations, improving the lives of the people of Derbyshire. As a Club we are committed to ensuring that we respond to local needs whilst working strategically in line with regional and national agendas. We all recognise that sport can play a prominent role in addressing major issues such as rising obesity levels, community cohesion, health inequalities, un-employment and educational attainment.
In May 2018 Michael and I were fortunate to go to Kenya to support the children and staff at the Cherish Exchange Foundation School in Nakuru.
What an experience! It is so hard to explain how this trip to Kenya affected me. There are no words that would cover it.
With a group of willing volunteers we dug holes, moved sand and cement (loads of it) , made a large wooden frame, laid a huge concrete floor, put up metal sheets and, on the final day, completed two new classrooms. There was opportunity to teach the children and we had some amazing sessions sharing the story of Handa's Surprise as well as reading stories, making masks, playing with a parachute, teaching the children to crochet and helping with preparing the midday meal.
The children were wonderful! Such love for each other, so much pleasure to be with and such aspirations!
So I would like to do it all again next year.........but I need a little help please. Would you be able to support by donating a little something towards my fund? Some of the money raised will go towards essentials for the pupils, staff and school in Nakuru and some of the money will also support Derby County's work in the community here in Derby.
If you can think of any other way that I can raise this money to support children and adults in Nakuru, Kenya please message me.
Thank you so much xx
