My grandad was a true gentleman, very caring, loving and stupidly funny to the point where everyone thought he was crazy. But that was just his humour he never took life serious, he was always positive, rarly shown any sad emotion and always looked after eveyone else before himself.
He served for the RAF for many years before going on to do many more things, royal mail, managing his own Jet garages and working for the NHS which the homes where taken over by Mencap. He loved being out with friends and family. He was always so active, he enjoyed going to the talbot and football matches to watch the local football team Stags though he actually supported Newcastle where he was born and bred. When he retired he felt lost, so he volunterred at John Eastwood Hospice, Sutton in Ashfield, Mansfield before being told about his diagnosis of Lung cancer.
Despite this he carried on being strong, positive and happy. He continued to volunteer at the hopsice for as long as he could. We will be holding donations for the hospice at the funeral. He you were lucky enough to meet him you would know just how much he enjoyed life and being around everyone. A true Hero i'd say!
Grandad spoke to me about donating to cancer research many times but felt upset there was nothing anyone could do for him, he always told me he wasnt ready, but he always said if there is anything we could do to help anyone else that we should do so. That's another reason why we have set up this just giving page for cancer research uk and we thank everyone for any donations big or small, to help so many of you out there with loved ones suffering from this horrible illness.
I'm greatful for everyting you did for us all Grandad.
I will love you forvere and miss you always xxxxx
