I am fundraising for an assistance dog for my daughter Beth.

Beth is 15 years old and attends a busy mainstream school and is due to start a horticultural course at Brinsbury college in September.

Beth is a quiet, caring and sensitive girl who is most relaxed amongst nature. She loves plants, animals and cooking. She makes the best brownies I’ve ever tasted.

Although Beth has always been a shy, quiet soul and struggles with self belief and confidence, it was about 21 months ago that things started to get really challenging for Beth. Her anxiety levels were through the roof and the school (or any busy) environment became unbearable. She became more and more dependent on her peers to help her transition around the school. She’s unable to do this and hasn’t attended any lessons for about a year.

Beth was diagnosed with A.S.D. along with slow processing skills and short term memory problems. The impact of this all has resulted in Beth becoming very depressed.

A huge achievement for Beth has been getting out of bed every morning to carry out her paper round. She’s able to cope with this due to taking our dog Dennis with her. He makes her feel less anxious and finds she is able to talk to residents in the village because the focus is on him not her.

I can’t possibly list ALL the benefits of having an assistance dog for Beth, but it would enable her to become more independent. A trip into town to the shops will become manageable. The assistance dog can provide deep pressure therapy and will remind her to take her medication, and maybe Beth will be able to attend college with less crippling anxiety that she currently has on a daily basis.

Thanks for taking the time to read our story, and any donation will help towards getting Beth smiling and start enjoying life again. We are truly grateful, so thanks to anyone that can donate. Any amount will help.
