Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
My son Chris tragically and unexpectedly died on 30th August 2019. He was just 19 years old. He was about to start university to study Psychology which was a dream of his for many years. He had suffered from epilepsy for over 3 years and had gone to bed the night before as normal, but did not wake up in the morning. It now known that Chris died from SUDEP (Sudden unexpected death in epilepsy) this is a little known condition which can affect any age group but disproportionately seems to affect the age group 19-31 years. I'm hoping to help raise awareness of SUDEP so that eventually proper funding and research can take place into the causes and why SUDEP happens.
His family and friends are devastated and struggling to come to terms with the loss of such an intelligent, kind and caring young man with his whole life in front of him.
Our wish is to try and fundraise enough money to hopefully train a puppy to become a support dog. We have asked whether the puppy could be called CHRIS as part of his ongoing legacy and in loving memory of dearly loved and inspirational young man.
Support dogs allow people with medical conditions more independence and save lives. They currently support people with disabilities and autism. In addition seizure alert dogs are trained to provide up to a 50 minute warning prior to the onset of a seizure enabling the client to control their seizures more safely.
Any support for this worthy cause would be appreciated and we hope to set up some additional fundraising events over the coming months.
